Duke of Edinburgh

At Talbot House we offer our pupils the chance to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards.
Both bronze and silver awards are split into four sections: physical, skill, volunteering and expedition.Ā  Here is a more details breakdown:
PHYSICAL
Physical is about improving your fitness and getting a healthy lifestyle through activity.Ā  At Talbot House our pupils set themselves objectives to work towards during weekly Physical Education sessions.
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is about making a meaningful contribution in your community, influencing change and shaping the world you want to live in.Ā  At Talbot House we have strong links with Throckley Community Centre where our pupils visit regularly throughout the year to support with various activities.Ā  There are also a number of volunteering opportunities for our pupils in and around school.
SKILLS
Skills is about developing personal interests, and practical and social skills. Throughout the section, you should keep learning and get better at your activity.Ā  At Talbot House our pupils focus on a number of different skills in at least one weekly session, including music, horticulture, animal care and cooking.
EXPEDITION
Expedition is about developing initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery. You’ll do this by planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey as part of a team.Ā  For the Bronze Award participants complete a 2-day expedition in the countryside, camping overnight.Ā  For the Silver Award participants complete a 3-day expedition, camping overnight.
